The Darafeev 917 Maple Flexback Upholstered Swivel Bar Stool is one of the narrowest upholstered stools Darafeev builds. At just 17” wide, it lets you fit an extra seat along an island without giving up a full, padded back. That back rides on Darafeev’s Flexback mechanism, easing back about an inch to an inch and a half when you lean in, then returning upright as you sit forward.

Tall, squared-off lines and a clean round footring give the 917 a tailored look that works in a modern kitchen as easily as a classic home bar, and it looks equally sharp in a soft fabric or a rich leather.
Handcrafted from Solid Maple
Each 917 is built to order from solid maple and finished by hand in Darafeev’s Southern California factory. Choose from more than two dozen maple finishes, from light Dune and Ledge Rock to rich Espresso, Matte Black and hand-distressed tones.
Comfort That Lasts
The 3 1/2” seat pairs high-resiliency foam with suspension seating, and the upholstery is pulled tight so the cushion keeps its shape through years of daily use.
Smooth 360° Swivel
A smooth 360° swivel makes it easy to turn toward the conversation or step away from the counter. Prefer a tidier look? Choose the optional memory-return swivel, which turns the seat back to face forward when you get up.
Customized for Your Space
Upholster the seat and back in Darafeev fabric, Crypton performance fabric, vinyl, or genuine leather in two grades and add an optional metal footplate. Swatches for every option are shown below.
Counter or Bar Height
Choose 26” counter height for standard 36” kitchen counters, or 30” bar height for 42” bars.

Designed for everyday living, Saloon naturally resists scratching and maintains a consistent tone across the hide.

Shelly Luxury Leather – Grade 1
Shelly is a European bovine leather chosen for its dependable performance and refined appearance. Finished with a protective pigmented topcoat and detailed grain embossing, it delivers a consistent look with added character. Built for furniture applications, this leather stands up well to daily use and offers excellent resistance to wear, moisture, and staining — making it suitable for both residential and high-traffic settings.
Chrome tanned and produced in accordance with REACH standards, Shelly maintains the natural touch of genuine leather while preserving subtle organic markings unique to each hide.

Siena Luxury Leather – Grade 1
Siena is a bovine leather selected for furniture applications where comfort and durability are equally important. Chrome tanned for flexibility and strength, it offers a smooth, supple feel with a gentle satin sheen. The finish provides a uniform appearance while remaining resilient to scratching and everyday wear, making it well suited for frequently used seating.
True to genuine leather, Siena retains subtle natural characteristics and tonal variation that give each piece its own individual character.
